Suspension polymerisation in a COBR

This project investigates the possibility of producing polymer particles by suspension polymerisation in a COBR. The scientific objectives are to understand the effects of mixing, temperature, concentration of reactants on reaction kinetics, conversion, particle size distribution and molar mass distribution. In addition, the mechanism of fouling is also a matter of interest. The goal of this project is to establish reaction kinetics and parameters affecting kinetics in a model reaction and to develop a reliable and repeatable polymerisation process that could be utilized by industry.


Mateus obtained his first degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Brasilia, Brazil; his MSc in Chemical and Biochemical Process Engineering, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
